DETROIT — The special-edition 2007 Ron Fellows ALMS GT1 Champion Corvette Z06 will hit U.S. showrooms in June with a sticker price of $77,500, including an $825 destination charge. A top-of-the-line model with OnStar and a navigation system will be priced at $79,945.
The car pays homage to the Canadian racer who scored Corvette Racing's first victory in 2000 and went on to become a three-time American Le Mans Series GT1 champion, a 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner and an overall winner in the Rolex 24 at Daytona with Corvette Racing. That's why Chevy incorporated the Canadian maple leaf on the vehicle's exterior. Travis Parman, Chevrolet spokesman, pointed out that this is the first time a Z06 has been available in white for the past two generations of the car. Of course, the vehicle's Arctic White paint with red fender stripe riffs off the colors of the Canadian flag.
The car is powered by a 512-horsepower LS7 V8 linked to a six-speed transmission. It has a top speed of 199 mph and sprints from zero to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds.
GM will build just 399 units of the special Vette. Guitar maker Paul Reed Smith, a Corvette racing sponsor, has also created a one-of-a-kind guitar that is a companion to the car. It is valued at $10,000.
