Honda To Introduce S2000 CR Prototype

TORRANCE, Calif. — Honda has announced that it will stage the world debut of a new club-racer-inspired version of the Honda S2000 at the New York auto show in April. The S2000 CR will hit showrooms in the fall. Although pricing hasn't been finalized, it is expected to come in at under $40,000.

Honda S2000 CR PrototypeThe base 2007 Honda S2000 carries a $34,845 sticker price, including a $595 destination charge. The rear-wheel-drive convertible is equipped with a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 237 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 162 pound-feet of torque at 6,800 rpm. Honda did not release engine specifications on the S2000 CR, describing it only as "aggressively tuned."

The Japanese automaker said the new S2000 model is "engineered around the expectations and needs of Honda performance enthusiasts." It added that the S2000 CR will take the vehicle's "track-worthy performance to an entirely new level." The S2000 was introduced in 1999.
