Nissan to take number 3 spot from Ford

Nearly everyone in the world knows about Toyota and how its on its way to become the number one automaker in the world, leaving GM in the dust. Well, GM isn’t the only US automaker getting left behind. Nissan is on its way to take the number 3 spot from Ford due to Ford’s $12.7 billion loss in 2006. With a projection of 6.3 million vehicles for 2007 and a 20 percent drop in January US auto sales, Ford is giving Nissan the chance to catch up really fast.

Nissan also has a lot under its belt for 2007 and 2008. It is breaking into the hybrid market with its new 2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid and is also reported to be working on a luxury hybrid for its Infiniti brand to compete against the Lexus HS450h. Two new models for 2008 are already receiving a lot of attention including the 2008 Nissan Rouge and the 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe.

Renault will also introduce a new generation of its Megane compact family, based on Nissan’s Rogue and Qashai crossover SUVs. The Renault Megane accounts for about half of Renault’s sales and 75% of its profit
