Ford of Europe Sales Roar to a New Record in 2007* Ford of Europe's 2007 sales rise 5.4 per cent to a record 1,833,600

* Ford of Europe's 2007 sales rise 5.4 per cent to a record 1,833,600
* Car sales up 4.1 per cent and commercial vehicles 10.9 per cent

COLOGNE, January 10, 2008 – With demand increasing for its stylish new models, Ford of Europe's sales soared by an impressive 93,500 units in 2007 to a record 1,833,600, a rise of 5.4 per cent on the previous year. Market share improved to 8.9 per cent.

Ford of Europe sold 1,463,630 cars in 2007, an increase of 4.1 per cent across its main 21 markets. Commercial vehicle sales leapt 10.9 per cent to a record 369,985, beating the previous record of 333,570 set in 2006.

The Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta were the top-selling Ford models in Europe last year, retailing a total of 496,600 and 378,220 units respectively. The Transit continued to set a brisk pace in the medium commercial vehicle market and sold a record 224,915. Not to be outdone, its smaller sibling, the Transit Connect, also set a new record selling 109,900 vehicles.

"I am delighted with our performance in 2007," said Stephen Odell, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe. "Including sales from our European Direct Markets, we sold close to 1.9 million vehicles last year. That's about 110,000 vehicles more than we sold in 2006. In 2006 we sold some 80,000 vehicles more than we did in 2005, so in the past two years we have added some 200,000 sales to our bottom-line.

"Selling over 100,000 more vehicles was a spectacular performance. Transit was up by 30,000 vehicles, Mondeo increased by 17,000 as we started to get full production of that model, S-MAX was up by 33,000 and Galaxy by more than 41 per cent to 10,000 units."

Around the markets, Ford of Europe sold more vehicles in Britain last year where it retained market leadership, than in any other single European market. Overall, UK sales rose 1.6 per cent to 444,390. The company there has been car market leader for 31 consecutive years and commercial vehicle market leader for 42 consecutive years. Sales in Germany totalled 235,050, with Italy close behind with 232,925. Spain sold 175,675, with France selling 133,600. In Russia, sales increased by more than 50 per cent, to 174,650.

"Our share in France was up to 5 per cent, which is a great recovery for us," said Stephen Odell. "Products like the C-MAX did very well, as did S-MAX and Galaxy. We also had a great year in Italy, selling 23,900 vehicles more than in prior year and increasing our share. We also did very well in Spain, especially with Mondeo and Fiesta. Turkey sold over 100,000 units, despite a lower industry in the first eight months of the year.

"To achieve record sales in a highly competitive market is testament to the strength of our product range," he added. "We have increased our sales every year since 2002 and it is clear that the performance, styling and quality of our cars and commercial vehicles are continuing to attract customers to the Ford brand. With more new models being launched this year, we are optimistic that we will maintain our sales momentum in 2008."

A strong performance in December contributed to Ford of Europe's 2007 sales record. In its main 21 markets, the company sold 152,680 cars and commercial vehicles in the final month of last year. Top-selling Ford models in December were the Focus (38,715), Fiesta (27,310) and Transit (22,440).

Ford's sales data includes both passenger cars and commercial vehicles from its 21 major European Sales Companies, including Russia and Turkey. Market share excludes Russia.

Ford of Europe is responsible for producing, selling and servicing Ford brand vehicles in 47 individual markets, including Russia and Turkey. The first Ford cars were shipped to Europe in 1903 – the same year Ford Motor Company was founded. Ford of Europe now employs approximately 66,000 people. In addition to Ford Motor Credit Company, Ford of Europe operations include Ford Customer Service Division and 22 manufacturing facilities, including joint ventures.

"We are on course for record sales this year because we are committed to giving customers what they want - cars and commercial vehicles that combine style, performance, value and quality," said Stephen Odell, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe. "We expect that successful formula to continue next year - production of the new 2008 Ford Focus started earlier this month, and the media are telling us we have yet another winner. The new Ford Focus will start arriving in showrooms early next year, and then we will further strengthen our range in 2008 with the launch of several other important new models."

HUMMER H3 Alpha and H3 first stock class vehicles to finish Baja.
Racing legend Rod Hall earns 19th career win in 40th Anniversary race
DETROIT – Team HUMMER once again demonstrated the inherent off-road capability of the HUMMER H3 as Rod, Josh and Chad Hall piloted their stock class H3 Alpha and H3 nearly 1,300 miles to become the first stock class vehicles to finish the 2007 SCORE International Baja 1000. The 2007 Baja 1000 marked the 40th anniversary of the grueling off-road race and covered 1,296.39 miles from Ensenada in Baja California to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Baja California Sur. It ran from November 13-15, 2007.

Hummer Hummer -2Hummer -3Team HUMMER races in the SCORE International full and mini stock classes which feature production-based vehicles with stock frames, stock suspension designs and production-based engines. With 18 entries, the 2007 race boasted the most stock class vehicles in the history of the 1000 and included models from seven different automakers.

As the only racer to have competed in a car or truck in all 40 Baja 1000 races, Team HUMMER owner Rod Hall marked his 40th race with a victory behind the wheel of his #760 stock mini class H3. Hall shared driving responsibilities in the race with his eldest son Josh Hall and business partner Mike Winkel. The trio piloted the vehicle to victory in 40:04:30 hours averaging a speed of 32.34 miles per hour. The H3 was the second stock class vehicle to cross the finish line.

The first stock class vehicle to cross the finish line was the #863 Team HUMMER H3 Alpha, piloted by Chad Hall and Sam Edgar. The team drove the H3 Alpha to a full stock class victory in its inaugural race, finishing in 36:27:25 hours and averaging a speed of 35.56 miles per hour.

First Drive 2007 Ford Mondeo

The 2007 Ford Mondeo is what remains of Ford's last attempt to build the "world car." Back in the days of former Ford CEO Jac Nasser, we were told that if Ford could just build one car for the whole of mankind instead of a bunch of different platforms for every little Ford region, we'd all end up with better cars. They would be cheaper, too.

2007 Ford Mondeo2007 Ford Mondeo-22007 Ford Mondeo-3Ford Chairman Alan Mulally is once again talking about rationalizing the number of different platforms that Ford builds around the world. Now that America is suddenly interested again in efficient sedans, could the all-new 2007 Ford Mondeo be the right kind of car for America?

Making Modern Power
More than 70 percent of Mondeo models sold in Europe are powered by diesel. There are three turbocharged common-rail diesels to choose from, and their output ranges from 99 horsepower to 138 hp. Four gasoline engines are also part of the model mix, and their output ranges from 123 to 217 hp.

The Mondeo Titanium X that we spent time in featured a 217-hp turbocharged 2,521cc inline-5. There are 236 pound-feet of torque available between 1,500 rpm and 4,800 rpm. The car's performance is brisk — it takes 7.3 seconds to get to 60 mph, and acceleration doesn't stop until you reach 152 mph.

Nevertheless, the Mondeo is a heavy car at 3,596 pounds, and it needs to be worked hard to deliver its best. Fuel consumption inevitably suffers, which is especially problematic on a continent where gas now costs over $8 per U.S. gallon.

2007 Citroen Nemo Concetto

FINDING NEMO…

After presenting Nemo at the Road Transport Show in Amsterdam in October 2007, Citroen is displaying NEMO CONCETTO at the 2007 Bologna Motor Show. Nemo Concetto is a take on a concept car based on Nemo, a compact, practical and intelligent vehicle that lends itself particularly well to this type of exercise.

2007 Citroen Nemo Concetto2007 Citroen Nemo Concetto-2Nemo Concetto is a nod to Disney's clown fish hero, with its orange and white colour scheme. It illustrates the world and values of Nemo, as well as highlighting the many possible ways of customising this vehicle.

Nemo Concetto illustrates the astonishing closeness between the Citroen Nemo and its clown fish homonym. Like the fish, Nemo Concetto can be considered as "small" among its peers. However, its size is an asset, since it is able to nip in and out of traffic easily.

In a world where it would be tempting to think that bigger is better, Nemo Concetto combines intelligent design with compact exterior dimensions and interior space. It shows that intelligence is the most important asset, whatever the environment. Nemo Concetto does not claim to be what it is not. It clearly states its identity with a new take on conventional automotive cues.

Resembling a small truck with fun looks, bright colours and unrestrained humour, Nemo Concetto is a rich mix with overwhelming appeal. Like the clown fish, Nemo Concetto has irresistible personality and looks. Nemo Concetto reflects Citroen's constantly renewed capacity to design vehicles with character, vehicles that adapt to the lifestyles and world of their owners… like fish in water!

Year-to-date sales stand at 93,673 vehicles, maintaining the company’s pace for its fourth consecutive year-over-year sales increase and second successive year of 100,000-plus units sold in the U.S.

Suzuki Auto’s upward sales momentum remains rooted in its right-sized product line. November sales were lifted by the Suzuki SX4 models, including the media acclaimed five-door SX4 Crossover and the all-new four-door SX4 Sport, which began arriving in dealer showrooms in September. November sales of the SX4 models totaled 1,664 units, while Suzuki’s XL7 midsize crossover SUV posted a notable 162 percent increase.

Daimler Presents European Carrier Awards 2007

First place in the passenger car category awarded to Horst Mosolf GmbH & Co KG

Stuttgart - At the European Carrier Days 2007, Daimler AG once again honored its best providers of vehicle transport logistics in Europe. The awards were presented at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart–Untertürkheim. In addition to the European Carrier Awards Passenger Cars, which were presented for the eighth time, Daimler also presented the fourth European Carrier Awards Commercial Vehicles for the fourth time this year.

As was the case last year, first place in the passenger car category went to the freight forwarding company Horst Mosolf GmbH & Co. KG Internationale Spedition from Kirchheim/Teck, Germany. Daimler was once again particularly impressed by the company’s outstanding logistics processes, which are supported by a consistent and continuous system of quality management and controlling. Second place went to Frankenbach Automobil Logistik GmbH from Ginsheim-Gustavsburg, Germany, while Akkermann Transporte GmbH from Moormerland, Germany, finished third.

In the commercial vehicles category, first place was once again awarded to Helf Automobil-Logistik GmbH in Essen, Germany. The company received the award primarily in recognition of its outstanding logistics processes, which have been further enhanced, and its sophisticated quality management system. Second and third place went to Galliker Transport AG from Switzerland and Frankenbach Automobil Logistik GmbH from Germany, respectively.

The award winners are selected on the basis of key performance indicators that are assessed in an auditing process which has been standardized for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles since 2004. Over the course of a year, all of the companies’ vehicle shipments are continuously monitored with regard to transport damage, transport time, the quality of vehicle shipping, and the general condition of the equipment used. The results are subsequently evaluated.

“We consistently enhanced the evaluation process for our service providers in order to move forward on the road toward achieving operational excellence in the transport logistics of complete vehicles,” says Egon Christ, head of Transport Logistics Vehicles at Daimler. “We have set up a comprehensive company assessment system with the aim of ensuring that our service providers continuously optimize all of their processes on a sustained basis. In order to further boost people’s motivation for achieving top performance, we will directly link the remuneration of commercial vehicle transports to performance in the future. In doing so, we are taking advantage of our extensive experience with passenger car transports, for which we introduced performance-based remuneration two years ago.”

At the European Carrier Days, Daimler also staged a special informational trade show that was expanded compared to last year's event. Representatives from about 100 European shipping companies attended the show to discuss the latest developments in the sector and obtain information on current plans and concepts for vehicle logistics.

Mercedes-Benz at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show 2007

Powerful, economical and clean diesel engines for the motherland of petrol hybrids

Stuttgart/Tokyo -- Oct 24, 2007 -- At the 40th Tokyo Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz is underscoring its position as the leading premium brand with a veritable pageant of compelling new models and innovative drive solutions. Among its motor show highlights in the homeland of the petrol hybrid, the inventor of the motor car and the diesel passenger car will be showcasing highly efficient, clean BLUETEC HYBRID versions of the C-Class and S-Class.

Hans Tempel, President and CEO of DaimlerChrysler Japan and Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show

Hans Tempel, President and CEO of DaimlerChrysler Japan and Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show

This unique modular drive concept, due to be launched shortly in various models and versions, will be premiered in the new E-Class in 2010.

* E 320 CDI: first and only diesel passenger car approved for Japan

* BLUETEC and BLUETEC HYBRID: cleanest, most economical diesel engines

* F 700 with DIESOTTO: luxury saloon with compact-car fuel consumption

* B-Class F-Cell: series-production zero-emission fuel cells from 2010

* New C-Class Estate: Asian premiere in Tokyo

Mercedes-Benz is also showcasing other motor show highlights in Tokyo, such as its groundbreaking F 700 research vehicle with DIESOTTO, the petrol engine of the future, the B-Class F-Cell, which will be the first series-production Mercedes-Benz car fitted with a fuel cell from 2010, and the new C-Class Estate, which is celebrating its Asian premiere in Tokyo and is due for launch in the Japanese market at the start of 2008.

The highly versatile estate version will supplement the C-Class Saloon, which went on sale in the spring in Japanand has already attracted some 7000 buyers. “The success of the new C-Class has decisively helped Mercedes-Benz regain the top spot in September among the premium import brands in Japan”, says Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, attending the first international motor show since the group and the passenger car unit were renamed.

The presence of Mercedes-Benz will also be bolstered significantly in Japan over the long term. “On November 1, we will be renaming our company ‘Mercedes-Benz Japan’”, says Hans Tempel, President and CEO of DaimlerChrysler Japan.

The long-standing brand, whose excellent reputation in Japan goes back to the legendary cars built for Emperor Hirohito in the 1930s, is also now benefiting from its lead in state-of-the-art diesel technology. For instance, the E 320 CDI is the first and to date only diesel passenger car which undercuts the tighter long-term emissions limits in Japan. Hans Tempel: “Our Japanese customers appreciate that. In a passenger car market where diesels currently account for less than 0.1 percent of new registrations, the E 320 CDI has secured a remarkably high figure of around 20 percent of E‑Class orders.”

In Japan the experts predict a sharp increase in the market share of diesels to around 15 percent by 2015. Mercedes-Benz is pioneering this development, a development supported energetically by renowned Japanese experts, on the back of environmentally and resource-friendly innovations such as BLUETEC and BLUETEC HYBRID which give customers what they want. In the words of Dr Zetsche: “BLUETEC HYBRID is a logical continuation of our globally successful diesel strategy. This modular hybrid concept is the new benchmark for efficient, clean and effortlessly superior driving pleasure in all vehicle segments and, in turn, the powerhouse behind the premium-class car of the future.”

BLUETEC HYBRID for the cleanest, most efficient premium-class cars

The C 300 BLUETEC HYBRID, a near-production study based on the new C-Class Estate, is a shining example in Tokyo of the outstanding potential of this unique technology. The four-cylinder unit and the hybrid module combined develop 165 kW/224 hp and maximum torque of 560 Nm, on a par with the figures of a large-volume V8 petrol unit. Yet the C 300 BLUETEC HYBRID consumes only 4.6 l/100 km. Mercedes-Benz is also presenting the same drive in an S-Class luxury saloon in Tokyo. The S 300 BLUETEC HYBRID combines effortlessly superior performance with unrivalled low consumption in this segment of just 5.4 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres, the equivalent of just 142 grams of CO2 per kilometre and thus 57 grams or around 30 percent less than the current world’s best saloon in the S-Class segment. The S 300 BLUETEC HYBRID has the potential to comply with the world's most stringent emissions standards – for instance the European EU6 or the BIN5 emissions standard for 50 U.S. states.

The six-cylinder version in the S 400 BLUETEC HYBRID is even more powerful yet boasts the same exemplary economy and clean credentials: a combination of 195 kW/265 hp and a maximum torque of 630 Nm with fuel consumption of just 5.8 litres of diesel per 100 kilometre. “This S-Class is perfect testimony to the aspirations and expertise of Mercedes-Benz in building the most exciting cars for our customers in future,” says Dr Zetsche.

F 700 with DIESOTTO: the petrol engine of the future

The F 700 with its innovative DIESOTTO and hybrid drive consumes just 5.3 litres of petrol per 100 kilometres – equivalent to CO2 emissions of just 127 grams per kilometre. This figure is on a par with today's diesel-engined compact cars and marks the lowest petrol consumption figures for a luxury saloon in the history of the motor car. The outstanding innovations on the F 700 include its innovative PRE-SCAN suspension which uses laser sensors to detect the road conditions and computes in advance the optimum suspension setting for each individual wheel.

Pioneering solutions have also found their way into the interior of the F 700. The intelligently designed, multiply adjustable REVERSE Seat does away with the inflexible seating configuration of conventional luxury saloons. This innovative design provides seat and rest positions facing both forwards and backwards. Another groundbreaking innovation comes in the shape of the SERVO-HMI with its sophisticated voice recognition capability. The system engages in a direct dialogue with the person at the wheel, while the avatar shown on the display acts like a personal assistant to the driver.

In addition, BMW is presenting two Asian premieres at the Tokyo Motor Show 2007: First, the new BMW 6 Series Coupé and Convertible setting new standards in dynamic performance, motoring culture and exclusivity. Second, the new BMW 1 Series Coupé for ultimate driving pleasure in the compact model series.

2008 BMW 6 Series Convertible

2008 BMW 6 Series Convertible

The Tokyo Motor Show is being held from 27 October–11 November in the capital city of Japan, the organisers and more than 250 international exhibitors expecting some 1.5 million visitors during this period. To accommodate the 40th Tokyo Motor Show, the exhibition area on the Makuhari Fairgrounds has been expended by more than 10 per cent to a total of almost 45,000 square metres or 485,000 square feet.

Sheer Driving Pleasure in all segments.

Presenting the BMW M3 Saloon, the new BMW 6 Series, and the BMW 1 Series Coupé, as well as a wide range of model, engine and equipment variants never seen before in Japan, BMW is underlining the Company’s position as the world’s leading manufacturer of premium cars. More than ever before, the current model range enables the Company to convey that

2008 BMW 1 Series Coupé

2008 BMW 1 Series Coupé

Sheer Driving Pleasure so typical of BMW throughout a wide range of car segments. And this unique quality is also and, indeed, in particular borne out by the unique competence of the BMW Group in the area of drivetrain development.

The new models presented at the Tokyo Motor Show set new standards in the area of driving dynamics and, at the same time, spell out further progress in the efficient use of fuel. The new BMW 135i Coupé, for example, makes the success of BMW EfficientDynamics, the Company’s unique development strategy, particularly clear and convincing, its 3.0-litre straight-six power unit with Twin Turbo technology and direct gasoline injection (High Precision Injection) developing a spectacular 225 kW/306 hp. As a result, this unique two-door athlete sets a new benchmark in driving dynamics, together with impressive fuel economy for a car of this kind, with average fuel consumption in the European test cycle of just 9.6 litres/100 km, equal to 29.4 mpg imp.

For years, BMW EfficientDynamics has been providing a wide range of trendsetting innovations. These include fully variable VALVETRONIC valve management presented by BMW in 2001 and now featured in more than a million cars sold the world over. This technology also referred to as throttle-free load management helps not only to increase engine output to an even higher level, but also to significantly reduce fuel consumption under practical driving conditions.

Another example of impressive innovations in the context of EfficientDynamics is the composite magnesium/aluminium crankcase for BMW’s straight-six power units introduced in 2004. Weighing just 57 per cent of a conventional grey-cast-iron engine block, this trendsetting power unit is also about

24 per cent lighter than a comparable aluminium engine.

At the Tokyo Motor Show 2007, the BMW X5 3.0si, the BMW 630i, the BMW 330i and the BMW Z4 Roadster 3.0si as well as the BMW Z4 Coupé 3.0si all feature six-cylinder power units with VALVETRONIC and a composite magnesium/aluminium crankcase.

Innovative power for enhanced dynamics, safety, and comfort.

At the Tokyo Motor Show 2007 BMW is also proving its unique innovative power through new driver assistance, safety and comfort functions.

The new BMW 6 Series, for example, stands out not only through its stylishly modified design and muscular engines, but also through a wide range of innovations in technology for further enrichment of the driving experience. Exclusive features such as Adaptive Headlights and variable light distribution, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function for maintaining the right distance in flowing traffic and even at dead slow speeds, a Lane Departure Warning complete with a vibration signal on the steering wheel,

Head-Up Display, BMW Night Vision and the High-Beam Assistant make both the Coupé and the Convertible genuine spearheads in technology.

Many of these new developments are also featured in the new BMW 5 Series: And like the 6 Series, the new 5 Series also comes, over and above the features mentioned, with crash-activated headrests reducing the risk of cervical spine injury in a collision from behind.

Likewise offering new features and a carefully upgraded interior, the BMW 3 Series is also enhancing its leadership in its segment. And now the outstanding success of the 3 Series is no longer based “just” on the Saloon and Touring, since, following the market launch of the BMW 3 Series Coupé and the BMW 3 Series Convertible, this superior series has now also been rounded off completely in Japan.

The new BMW X5 being presented at the Tokyo Motor Show 2007 offers unique driving dynamics unparalleled in its segment. Indeed, this new version of the BMW X5 is continuing the worldwide success of this unique vehicle, offering even greater dynamics on the road, an even higher standard of exclusivity and optimised versatility within the interior.

The new BMW X5 is available with both a 261 kW/355 hp eight-cylinder and a 200 kW/272 hp six-cylinder, power being conveyed to the road in both cases via BMW’s intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system. This variable distribution of power gives the BMW X5 superior dynamics on the road as well as outstanding traction on rough terrain.

The second, equally successful member of BMW’s SAV family is the BMW X3 also to be admired at the Tokyo Motor Show in its top version with a 200 kW/272 hp six-cylinder power unit and six-speed automatic transmission.

Both the BMW Z4 Roadster and the BMW Z4 Coupé focus throughout on dynamic performance and unique driving pleasure. Both models come with high-performance straight-six power units outdone only by the even more dynamic 3.2-litre engine in the BMW Z4 M Roadster and the BMW Z4 M Coupé developing 252 kW/343 hp with its high-speed engine concept so typical of BMW M for a genuine feeling of motorsport on the road.

Technology of the future, already available today: BMW Hydrogen 7.

Introducing the world’s first luxury performance hydrogen saloon for everyday use also to be admired at the Tokyo Motor Show 2007, BMW clearly underlines the Company’s leading position in future-oriented drive concepts.

BMW Hydrogen 7 is driven by a dual-mode twelve-cylinder able to run on both conventional gasoline and hydrogen, and setting an unparalleled milestone en route to a new form of mobility free of pollutants and independent of fossil fuels. Maximum output of BMW Hydrogen 7 is 191 kW/260 hp, giving the car all the dynamics and driving comfort of a BMW luxury saloon and providing a maximum range of more than 500 kilometres or 310 miles simply by pressing a button to switch over from one fuel to another.

BMW Hydrogen 7 has been built in small series of 100 units, giving leaders in society and celebrities the world over the opportunity within just three months to cover a total of more than two million kilometres with this future-oriented hydrogen luxury saloon – and naturally, these are only the first users of this unique car.

2008 Nissan Livina Series Launched in Taiwan

Global car will continue push into new markets, including Malaysia and the Philippines

TOKYO (October 22, 2007) – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today confirmed that the Nissan Livina and Grand Livina both launched this weekend in Taiwan. The Grand Livina also will be introduced in South Africa next month, followed in January 2008 by the Livina. With the introduction of the Livina series in these markets, Nissan is growing its model lineup to include the MPV and compact hatchback segments.

2008 Nissan Livina

Both Taiwan’s Yulon Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (YNM) and Nissan Motor Company South Africa (Proprietary) Ltd. (NSA) held kick-off events recently in support of the introduction of the Livina series, which is part of Nissan’s global product strategy to deliver models with the flexibility to meet the needs of diverse customers. As part of the strategy, the Livina series will be manufactured at several plants in Nissan’s global production network.

The three-row Nissan Grand Livina first went on sale last November in China (under the Livina Geniss brand name), followed in April by the two-row Livina. Also in April, the Grand Livina was introduced in Indonesia. The Livina Geniss and Grand Livina already have received several accolades, including Indonesian Car of the Year, “Best Compact MPV,” by Mobil Motor Magazine.

The Grand Livina is a seven-seater MPV offered with 1.5, 1.6 or 1.8-liter gasoline engines and available with a four-speed automatic or five- or six-speed manual transmission. The five-seater Livina compact hatchback is powered by 1.5 or 1.6 gasoline engines paired with either a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission. There are model variations by market.

The Livina series for the South African and Taiwanese markets will be built locally at the Rosslyn plant and the San Yi plant, respectively.

With momentum in new markets, Nissan plans to introduce this new family of global vehicles to more countries. The Grand Livina will be introduced in Malaysia later this year and in the Philippines next year. As well, the Livina will launch in Indonesia early next year. For each of those markets, the vehicles will be manufactured locally.

2007 Tokyo Auto Show Preview: Subaru Exiga

TOKYO — Subaru's Exiga concept for the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show is a new seven-passenger "proposal" that appears to combine design elements from the company's midsize Legacy station wagon and Forester crossover vehicle — and it looks virtually showroom-ready.

Subaru ExigaSubaru Exiga-1Subaru Exiga-2The Exiga shares a number of mechanical elements with its siblings, too, including a turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-4 engine, five-speed automatic transmission and Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive.

The vehicle also boasts a supersize panoramic glass roof and theater-style seating, with rear passengers sitting a little higher than those in front. Seats are upholstered in leather and trimmed in pearl white and blue. The rear seatbacks incorporate fold-down tray tables, similar to those on airplanes.

What this means to you: This people-friendly family hauler looks much more attractive than anything Subaru has on the road today.

2007 Nissan Round Box Concept

(from Nissan Press Release) Youth-Oriented Compact Convertible Provides Occupants Senses of Speed and exilleration

2007 Nissan Round Box Concept2007 Nissan Round Box Concept-12007 Nissan Round Box Concept-2The Nissan Round Box, with its compact convertible design, represents a new take on open-air motoring, providing exhilaration for all passengers - not just the driver - through its uniquely shared experience of fresh air stimulation, a sensation of speed and easy-to-use high-spec features.

The Round Box features an environmentally friendly turbocharged direct injection gasoline engine mated to Nissan's advanced Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). It is also equipped with a number of safety systems based on Nissan's Safety Shield* concept, including Around View Monitor and Distance Control Assist System (DCAS).

The inspiration for Round Box's interior, which features the "right sized" space to facilitate communication between the four occupants, was not another vehicle, but a social environment. "The car was inspired by the lively atmosphere of a sports bar," explains Tatsuya Shiosaki of Nissan's Exploratory and Advanced Product Department. "In a sports bar everyone is focused on the game for pure enjoyment. They are totally free of the pressure and tension felt by the players who are actually playing the game on the field. A sports bar affords an enjoyable, stress-free space where friends can experience a sense of togetherness. Simultaneously, they can enjoy thrilling excitement like being on a roller-coaster yet without any risk involved. That is the sort of emotive world the Round Box is intended to provide.

2007 Opel GT with KW Coilover Suspension V3

Sportier appearance and better handling: KW coilover suspension V3 for Opel GT

2007 Opel GT with KW Coilover Suspension V32007 Opel GT with KW Coilover Suspension V3 2* Racing-technology for the road
* Customised lowering of suspension up to 45 mm
* Coilover suspensions produced in stainless steel "inox-line" technology

"Only flying is more beautiful" was the old commercial slogan in the late 1960s, when the first Opel GT was presented to the public. In terms of driving dynamics there are worlds between the new generation of the Opel GT and its predecessor. And there are even more between them, if you use a KW coilover suspension V3. With it one can lower the car in a range from 20 to 40 mm at the front axle and from 20 to 45 mm at the rear. The KW coilover suspension V3 for the Opel GT is available with immediate effect.

KW coilover suspensions - 3 damping variants for every type of driver

Coilover suspension V1 with preset damper setting permits customised lowering of the suspension and creates an optimised balance of sportiness, comfort and safety. Damping variant V2 is the ideal system for sporty drivers, who also wish to make modifications in the set-up to achieve a more customised lowering of the suspension. Thanks to the adjustable rebound damping, it is possible to adapt the driving comfort to suit the driver's personal taste.
With its separately adjustable pressure and rebound damping functions, coilover suspension V3 permits an even higher degree of customisation to the suspension and provides the perfect solution for those truly technically demanding drivers.

All KW coilover suspensions are produced in the unique stainless steel "inox line" technology. This assures the extremely high quality and durability of the suspensions plus a long-lasting perfect finish to match.

2007 Abt Sportsline Audi TT Roadster

An open roof sportscar in a tailor-made suit: The Abt TT Roadster

2007 Abt Sportsline Audi TT Roadster2007 Abt Sportsline Audi TT Roadster 22007 Abt Sportsline Audi TT Roadster 32007 Abt Sportsline Audi TT Roadster 4Before the first preliminary designs were published, it was clear that the leading Audi tuner Abt Sportsline planned to cause a sensation with the new Audi TT, as the first TT is one of the favourite cars of the Kempten-based company with a long tradition. And this is due to the fact that the race version of the Sports Coupe 2002 won a lot of DTM (German Touring Car Series) races.

Therefore it is only logical that, after the extravagant TT-Sport and TT-R, also the TT Roadster, which is already exquisitely beautiful as serial car, gets a special treatment in the Allgaeu: the designer from Abt Sportsline developed car body parts with which the open-roof TT becomes more danymical. Thus, the front skirt with its grid element emphasizes the area around the fog lights and the single-frame grill. The brawny laterally attached parts underline the design of the convertible and create a unit with the striking rear section of the car. There the rear skirt inset and the rear wing, providing additional down force, are the central elements. Also the 4-pipe rear muffler, which perfectly harmonizes with the rear skirt inset and its integrated rear diffuser, belongs to the distinctive rear view of the Abt TT Roadster.

The TT Roadster from Abt is an absolutely successful open-roof sportscar, a design masterpiece for ambitious pilots. Therefore, Abt Sportsline offers a number of power upgrade packages. The highlight of the product range is - similar to the Coupe - the TT-R with the VR6 3.2 K. The supercharger aggregate provides 355 hp (262 kW) and accelerates the car in about 5 sec. from standstill to 100 km/h. But also the other versions are extremely sporty. No matter if VR6 3.2 or 2.0 T-FSI engine, an Abt TT Roadster is always fast. For the favoured 2 liters Turbo FSI, Abt offers a power upgrade from 240 hp (177 kW) with special iS technology, sparing purse and environment, up to powerful 300 hp (221 kW). Matching to the always enormous propulsion of the TT Roadster: Abt suspension kit. For more security in ticklish situations cares the Abt sports brake system with its huge disc diameters of 380x34 millimeters.

To perfectly round off the dynamical and powerful appearance of the TT Roadster, Abt recommends the wheels AR 19 and SP1 in the size 19 inch, as well as the one inch bigger wheel AR20.

2007 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster

Aston Martin Launches the V8 Vantage Roadster

2007 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster2007 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster 22007 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster 32007 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster 4Los Angeles - Aston Martin will unveil one of the most eagerly anticipated convertibles of the year when the V8 Vantage Roadster is revealed at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday 29th November.

Aston Martin Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ulrich Bez said: “The V8 Vantage Roadster is a pure sports car, a car that heightens the senses and provides a dynamically thrilling driving experience.

“The Vantage Roadster adds to the unbeatable thrill of open air motoring and by combining engineering excellence, technological innovation and physical perfection, will ensure every journey is one to remember.”

Perfectly proportioned, with a low purposeful stance, the Vantage Roadster is uncompromisingly modern yet also incorporates classic Aston Martin design cues. The elegant lines are fused with traditional craftsmanship and striking 21st century style, with an interior hand-trimmed and finished in the finest quality genuine materials.

The Vantage Roadster will be built at Aston Martin’s global headquarters at Gaydon, near Warwickshire in the UK, joining the current Aston Martin line-up. This now comprises the flagship Vanquish S, the elegant DB9 and the agile V8 Vantage Coupe.

Design

The design of the Vantage Roadster is elegant and uncompromising, a single fluid form with characteristic attention to detail, both inside and out, representing the open sports car in its purest form.

The Vantage Roadster represents the latest evolution of Aston Martin's synthesis of craft and technology. From the beautifully hand stitched leather seats to the hand-finished bodies, to the ultra-modern Aston Martin V8 engine, hand-assembled at a dedicated, high-technology facility in Cologne, Germany, the Vantage Roadster is an exclusive, advanced and uniquely desirable sports car.

The three-layer fabric hood gives a taut, aggressive appearance when closed and when folded, the flow from front to rear is smooth and elegant, enhanced by the leather speed humps that create a unique transition between interior and exterior. Even in convertible form the Roadster retains the critically acclaimed design of the Vantage Coupe. The hood is stowed neatly beneath the rear tonneau cover and is either opened or closed at the press of a button located on the centre console, in just 18 seconds, and at speeds of up to 30mph (50km/h) with no manual intervention required.

Offered with an imaginative combination of different leathers, contemporary fabrics and aluminium, Vantage Roadster customers will have an extensive choice of body and trim colours from which to choose.

Performance

Developed from the outset alongside the V8 Vantage Coupe which was launched in 2005, the Roadster shares the unique-to-Aston Martin bonded aluminium VH (Vertical Horizontal) architecture – the backbone to all modern Aston Martins. Adding to this structure sophisticated materials such as lightweight alloys, magnesium and advanced composites are used for the body, further contributing to the car's low weight and high rigidity.

Driver and passenger sit low, close to the car's centre of gravity, where they can feel the car reacting to the input of the driver – a special sensation, usually only experienced in racing cars – providing a direct and sporting connection between car and driver.

Despite the additional mechanism associated with the Vantage Roadster’s convertible roof and the additional body stiffness, Aston Martin’s engineering team have ensured only a minimal weight increase to preserve the agile and sporting characteristics of the V8 Vantage Coupe. At just 4.38 metres (172.5 in) long, Vantage Roadster remains not only the smallest model in the Aston Martin range but also one of the leanest cars in its class.

The Vantage Roadster delivers exceptional performance with careful development and engineering ensuring that the Roadster equals the achievements of its Coupe sibling, with 0-100 km/h (62 mph) achieved in 5.0 seconds (0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds) and a potential maximum speed of 280 km/h (175 mph).

Vantage Roadster will be available with two transmission alternatives from launch. Offered as standard is the fast-shifting, six-speed Graziano conventional stick-shift manual gearbox, with ratios perfectly matched to the performance of the V8 engine. This is joined by Aston Martin's new Sportshift automated manual transmission – an ultra-quick system that provides the driver with heightened precision via fingertip control of gear changes using paddles to progress smoothly and swiftly through the ratios.

Deliveries of the V8 Vantage Roadster are expected to commence during quarter two 2007, with prices to be confirmed at a later date.

First Drive: 2007 Brilliance BS6

Previews

Chinese cars are now on sale in Europe, so we go for broke and try one at top speed on a German autobahn.

Yes, Chinese cars are coming to the U.S. The catch is that no one, not even the Chinese car manufacturers themselves, can provide a clear answer as to when and how. But we wanted to see how a Chinese car fares on real roads—and we wanted to know right now. The opportunity came courtesy of Brilliance Auto, a car manufacturer based in the northeastern Chinese town of Shenyang. If the name Brilliance rings a bell, it’s probably because the company has been licensed by BMW to build and sell 3- and 5-series sedans for the Chinese market since late 2003.

Our test drive would not be in some Brilliance-built Bimmer, but in the company’s very own BS6 sedan (known as the “Zhonghua” in China). To put the car through its paces, we hit a hectic mix of city streets, country roads, and arrow-straight autobahns in Berlin, Germany. Why Berlin? Because Brilliance is the first Chinese manufacturer to take a serious stab at Western auto markets, and distributor HSO Motors Europe has chosen Germany to start its European distribution of the BS6. The smaller BS4 sedan and BC3 coupe arrive later this year, while a compact car, dubbed the BS2, and an SUV are also in the works, part of a plan to meet an annual sales target of 75,000 cars in Europe by 2010.

Anonymous Applies to the Styling as well as the Driving, but not the Price

Arriving early in the morning at Berlin Schönefeld airport, we were fortunately met by an HSO representative. That’s because the BS6 is the poster child for anonymous styling—finding it in the airport lot would have taken us ages despite the fact that the BS6’s lines were penned in the studios of Italdesign. Our guess is that the job was finished before the morning espresso had gone cold. At 192.1 inches long, the BS6 is about the size of a Toyota Camry. Get ready for a shock, because the price is darn close to a Camry’s too. The BS6 is far from the cut-rate economy car many expected to spearhead China’s entry into demanding Western automotive markets. The base 2.0-liter BS6, in “Comfort” trim level, starts at €20,000 (roughly $26,600). The 2.4-liter “Deluxe” model we tested has an estimated price of $31,000. Yikes.

Driving Impressions and Issues

Comfortable, but Extremely Slow

Trying to remain unbiased by the high price, we jump behind the wheel and right into a sea of shiny and cheap-looking plastic. The steering wheel feels oily and the column-mounted stalks brittle. The radio looks like it’s been time-warped from 1985. Being fair, the ergonomic layout of dials and switches is intuitive and easy to learn. Even the fake wood isn’t bad (for fake wood). Twist the key, and the Mitsubishi-sourced 2.4-liter four-cylinder sounds harsh and raspy. Thankfully, once on the move, it loses its asthmatic edge. Initial driving impressions are surprising. The BS6 is a comfortable car in urban traffic; the multilink suspension absorbs bumps nicely and the cabin is quiet. But with just 127 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque—and get this, it requires premium fuel—forget about stoplight heroics. Brilliance quotes a leisurely 0-to-60-mph time of 12.5 seconds for the 2.4-liter BS6. With the standard 121-hp, 2.0-liter four, the BS6 takes a glacial 13.8 seconds. Some quick rowing of the rubbery five-speed manual transmission at least kept us ahead of most tour buses and garbage trucks.

At low speeds the steering feels heavy, even if there is very little real feedback. It’s as if the engineers got most of the way there, but final steering feel was decided in a boardroom and not a test-track. Regardless, when it comes to ride, handling, and engine power, the BS6 doesn’t fall on its face. On the autobahn, running at top speed (just over 120 mph), the BS6 tracked straight and true—even if the rev needle was snug against the 6000-rpm redline. The fact that the BS6 didn’t wilt at those speeds proves that Brilliance at least did its homework regarding chassis and suspension setup.

Quality Issues, No Diesel, Terrible Crash Ratings

Unfortunately, Brilliance has a huge list of quality issues that overshadow the car’s driving traits. The stereo sounds terrible, with bass that rattles the doors as if someone was banging a basketball against them. That ugly glob of black rubber—otherwise known as the shifter—got sticky and nasty feeling after about an hour of use. The one-touch power windows didn’t go down with the as-promised one touch. Even the trunk didn’t open smoothly. It took three tugs to get it completely open.

Another problem facing the BS6, especially in Europe, is the car’s lack of a diesel engine. That will be fixed in 2008, when an as-yet-unnamed diesel motor becomes optional. Of greater concern is the car’s lack of safety equipment. There is no traction or stability control, and no side curtain airbags. The BS6 has anti-lock brakes, dual front airbags, and that’s about it. The BS6 received horrible crash-test ratings by Euro NCAP, with side-impact protection deemed to be especially bad. These factors could easily scare off automotive bargain-hunters who might have otherwise given this bland-looking but relatively well-mannered newcomer a chance. Chinese cars have made it halfway to the U.S., but Brilliance should make use of this extended European layover to improve its quality and substantially beef up the list of safety features.
