Porsche Rolls Out 100,000th Second Generation Cayenne

Pundits may have had their doubts when the model first appeared in 2002, but the Cayenne has proved to be a phenomenal success for Porsche, which has just assembled the 100,000th example of the second-generation model at its plant in Leipzig, Germany.

The 100,000th Cayenne II is a V8 petrol model in a "Pure White" finish and it's being readied for shipping to Brazil, where it will be handed over to its new owner.

The production milestone comes less than two years after the market launch of the second generation of the Cayenne in May of 2010. The first generation of the luxury SUV sold 360,000 units from 2002 to 2010.

No More Mr. Cayenne Guy: Spain’s Financial Crisis Kill Sales of Luxury Cars

When a couple is married, they vow to love and cherish each other for richer or poorer, in good or bad times.

Buying a car, especially an expensive one like a Porsche Cayenne, is kind like a marriage, in the sense that you get to live with it every day – except that you can have more than one and it doesn't talk back to you…

When things go bad, however, it’s not just couples that get a divorce: the ongoing financial crisis that has plagued Northern European countries is forcing owners to depart with their beloved vehicles because they simply can’t afford their expenses anymore.

IAA 2011: Eterniti Hemera Brings a Breath of Fresh Air to the Porsche Cayenne

Making its world premiere in close-to-production form is the Eterniti Hemera, which the newly formed London-based company refers to as the "world's first Super-SUV".

A close look at the Hemera reveals that the vehicle is more or less a heavily modified (or tuned, take your pick) Porsche Cayenne SUV, which itself is based on the VW Touareg.

Eterniti claims that all body panels on the Hemera are new and made of carbon composite materials, while the company added that is also working on bespoke LED headlamps and lenses that will make it on the final production model.

Blimey…Eterniti Motors Hemera Looks Like a Tuned Porsche Cayenne

After all the hype about a "new luxury car brand" that will hand-build "the world’s first Super-SUV", the self-proclaimed "independent, boutique British luxury carmaker, uniquely based in London", which we will come to know as Eterniti Motors, has lifted the covers off something that looks like/is a heavily tuned second-generation Porsche Cayenne ahead of its Frankfurt show debut.

While the British company does not specifically refer to the Porsche model, it has previously stated that the Hemera "is based on the latest generation of the best large SUV platform available, which will undergo a chassis-up rebuild, with a new, repackaged interior, carbon-composite body panels and additional performance".

Decorative Overkill on a Porsche Cayenne SUV

While never mainstream, car decorations in the broadest sense of the word have always appealed to certain people. However, this is something you expect to see on an old, probably run down, conventional vehicle and not on a fairly new upscale model like the first generation Porsche Cayenne SUV….

The absurdly decorated German SUV with the Ontario license plates is covered in stickers, badges, chrome add-ons, reflectors and toys. We even managed to discover a few LED spotlights on the SUV's hood. Talk about overkill… More photos in the gallery after the jump.
