Skoda Auto launch new Fabia

A distinctive design with a high degree of functionality, high standards of comfort, the wish for perfect quality and irreproachable reliability, and, above all, high safety standards, which leave nothing to chance, are basic expectations today.

Current debate abouton lower carbon dioxide emission levels and lower fleet usage has also made an impression on the range of models on offer. Škoda Auto fulfils all of these demands with its entire model range and additionally, exhibit a whole range of desirable virtues. Thanks to the exceptional price-performance ratio, numerous technical innovations and a super, self-confident design, Škoda Auto has advanced from a likeable traditional brand of national importance to an internationally successful volume manufacturer. Sporty and attractive automobiles with a high degree of functionality and exceptional reliability and quality fulfil the targets that the new models at Škoda Auto are following today.

The Škoda Fabia has made a considerable impression on the image and status of the brand in the recent past. Its first official presentation at the 1999 IAA in Frankfurt met with an overwhelmingly positive response. Customers and experts alike were full of praise for the attractive design, the balanced proportions with their dynamic lines, the large amount of space, and, above all, the generous amount of comfort. Many of the details were previously found only in automobiles of a higher category. The Fabia was the first in its segment to be equipped with a height- and reach-adjustable steering wheel. In addition to the refrigerated glove compartment there is a further air-conditioned storage space on the driver’s side. And the Fabia is able to compete with cars of the next higher class in regard to the offer in space and comfort with such extra equipment as automatic cruise control,
a sunroof, electrically operated windows and much, much more.

The safe driving properties of the Fabia were awarded best marks. The variety in form with hatchback, saloon and estate car versions, the wide range of engines available and an attractive range of colours made the Fabia one of the most sought after automobiles in the European small car class from the very beginning. The reviews and ratings achieved in tests held by the motoring press and the enthusiasm expressed by the public have brought the Fabia a top position in the Škoda Auto success story. More than 1.5 million drivers have already decided to drive a Fabia making it the highest-selling car in the product range of Škoda Auto since 1991.

New Fabia – a large plus in safety, space, comfort, functionality, and value

Now, following eight years of successful history, the new Fabia with its independent and self-confident design will awaken great expectations among automobile experts and customers alike in the spring of 2007. The impressive qualities of safety, price-performance ratio, and, in particular, the feeling of space, have been improved considerably in comparison to those of its predecessor. The development team at Škoda Auto has met the latest Euro NCAP safety requirements and pedestrian protection regulations by means of specially designed structural developments. And function does not have to stand in the ways of form: packed in a refreshing sporty design, the Fabia is the most spacious car in its class. Practicality and daily use by no means suffer under the formal elements. On the contrary: the self-confident, upright styling makes perfect use of the space possible.

The design of the new Fabia expresses clearly emotional characteristics. The fresh design with its strongly accentuated radiator grille, the integrated headlights which are both dynamic and harmonious, and the sideline which expresses both agility and value combine to make the new Škoda stand out clearly from its competitors. This is achieved by means of the white roof, available on request, and the four different wheel designs in the programme.

The space is exceptionally generous in spite of its compact measurements and, in the rear, the amount of headspace provided is impressive. The ergonomic seat position for the driver is a matter of course in the new Fabia, while the higher position of the seats affords a better view of the bonnet and also makes entering and leaving more comfortable. The new Fabia offers more space for knee and foot space for all occupants, setting new standards in travelling comfort.

Numerous functional improvements have been realised in the interior. The operating elements for the ventilation and the audio unit have been set high up in the centre console. This makes it possible to operate them without being distracted from what is happening in traffic. The boot, with a volume of at least 300 litres, can cope with practically every transport task in day-to-day life. The boot cover, which can be installed at two different heights, increases the flexibility and functionality of the boot.

With these excellent virtues and the marked degree of emotionalism achieved, the new Fabia addresses its existing groups of customers by offering them an even greater degree of flexibility. Simultaneously it now also addresses new circles of customers, who place value on an independent, dynamic presentation and demand a large range of possibilities for individualising the car. The large equipment range enables the Fabia to fulfil these wishes so that the owner can express his or her own individual taste. However, the new Fabia has not lost its proverbial excellent price-performance ratio. The sum total of its properties provides the best prerequisites for continuing the success of its predecessor and, even more, to exceed this by far. It creates new incentives both for the design-oriented driver and the price-conscious customer alike, allowing both to enter the world of Škoda Auto.

One of seven different engines can be packed under the bonnet of the new Fabia. Four are petrol engines, and the diesel engines form the remaining trio. Their performance spectrum covers the requirements of the small car segment in a splendid manner. The spectrum ranges from
44 kW (60 HP) to 77 kW (105 HP). Diesel particle filters are offered for the diesel engines with
1.4 litre (59 kW) and the 1.9 litre (77 kW). The most powerful petrol engine can be combined with
a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission.

The introduction of the new Fabia will commence in the spring of this year, initially in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. There, the first Fabias will be supplied to customers in March. Immediately afterwards, in April, the Fabia will be on the market in Slovakia. France and Great Britain will follow in May, with deliveries to the remaining European Union states following.
