2011 Cadillac Ciel Concept Review


Cadillac’s stunning Ciel concept car will make its European premiere at the press days of next month’s Frankfurt International Motor Show.

This elegant, four-door convertible – the name, means sky in French – melds high-tech features with traditional hand-turned luxury, symbolizing Cadillac tradition for bold design on a grand scale.

It wowed crowds after being unveiled last week at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance in California and will be a major attraction on the Cadillac stand in Frankfurt.

The Ciel is a sumptuous celebration of the enjoyment of open-top motoring and demonstrates how Cadillac’s Art & Science design philosophy can be applied to top-of-the-line, luxury vehicles.

Thematic features include rear-hinged, rear doors for ease of access; extensive hand-turned aluminum, solid olive wood paneling; elegant chronograph-inspired instrumentation; personal connectivity portals for all passengers, and the provision of pull-out, cashmere lap blankets.

The sumptuous leather seats are heated and ventilated, and equipped with a drawer containing sun lotion, sun glasses and towels, with aromatherapy provided from the rear armrest.

Riding on 22-inch, nickel-plated wheels braked by carbon ceramic discs, the Ciel is exceptionally spacious with a wheelbase 305 mm longer than the current CTS model.

Propulsion comes from a 317 kW/425 hp, twin-turbocharged version of the CTS’s 3.6-liter V6 engine, teamed with all-wheel drive and a hybrid system using lithium-ion battery technology.
